Interview with Dorrie Krenkel, Inventor of the STA-ON Pet Diaper Harness
1. How did you come up with the idea?
When my dog, Bucky, got old, she always had accidents in the house, and I could never find a diaper, made for pets that would stay on. So, I designed a harness that would hold the diaper secure and in place.
2. How long did it take to bring your idea to market?
By the time I perfected the STA-ON diaper harness, it took me about fourteen months. I started out designing the harness out of the cotton, but it took about four times as long to make.
3. What makes your product unique?
There is nothing out on the market today that is designed to hold on disposable diapers.
4. Are you planning any enhancements/improvements to the product?
Not at this time, I think I've made it as easy and simple to use as I can.
5. What is your professional background? Did that line of work or education help you in developing this product?
I drove a school bus for fourteen years and now I currently work for a Small Charter Bus Company. I can't really say that my professional background helped me at all with my invention, but I do love my animals, and I don't like to see my pets unhappy.
6. Throughout the entire inventive/manufacturing process what was the hardest obstacle you faced?
The hardest obstacle that I've faced is finding someone willing to manufacture the harnesses. The companies usually want want large runs on products.
7. What type of pets do you own?
I have one chihuahua, Bug that's eleven years old, and one new member in our family, Lulu, a six month old Pomeranian. My inspiration to my invention though was my seventeen year old Dachshund/Terrior, Bucky, who passed away last December.
8. Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about you or your product?
The STA-ON diaper harness is intended for use with baby disposable diapers to reduce/eliminate stains and damage from accidental soiling. It is suitable for elderly animals who have lost control of their bladder, female animals that are undergoing menstruation, and young animals that are not yet house trained.
You might have seen lots of cat pictures, where cute cats are wearing diapers just like little babies. Diapers are of great use for little kittens, especially when you’re on travel with your pets. But ragdoll kittens look real cute when wrapped in a pet diaper. Pet diapers also keep your pets from anxiety when they are away from home or out of the pet carriers.
If you need to keep track of you pet there are now many mobile broadband applications that are starting to emerge like remote cameras and cell phones that allow direct communication between you and your pet.
